Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman. She is the controlling owner of the Los Angeles Lakers of the National Basketball Association and currently serves as its president. Buss is a native of California and grew up part of a rich family. Jerry Buss is her father. He was a real estate tycoon before becoming the proprietor of Lakers as well as other companies. Her parents parted ways in 1972 and she began to feel that she was emotionally neglected. At the age of 19, she was employed within the family's company. Then she founded the Los Angeles Blades team of professional roller hockey. She first served as vice president of Lakers before she assumed the position of president of Great Western Forum. Her father died in 2013 and his controlling ownership of the Lakers was transferred to Buss as well as her siblings through a family trust which gave each sibling the same vote. Buss assumed the role as the president for the Los Angeles Lakers. Buss also co-owns Women of Wrestling, a professional organization that has its the headquarters located within Los Angeles.
